Union Rescue Mission
This month’s Spirit of Arkansas has served people as a soup kitchen since 1952. Since then the Union Rescue Mission has grown and continually expanded its ability to help. Today, the Union Rescue Mission runs the Dorcas and Nehemiah houses. The Dorcas House provides a safe environment for women and children who are victims of domestic violence and has expanded to include those saved from human trafficking. The Nehemiah House is a place for men who are homeless and struggle with addictions. It also includes a work program to help transition to life outside the Nehemiah House. Union Rescue mission is still expanding with immediate plans to open Second Story, which will be a re-entry home for veterans. The Union Rescue Mission exemplifies the Spirit of Arkansas for how they help Arkansans and how they continue to grow to help more people.
