Exodus Project
About half of parolees from the prison system end up back in prison at some point in their life. There are multiple reasons for the high number, but the Exodus Project is fighting to change the recidivism rate. They believe that if more parolees were equipped with specific life skills, established a career path, and received some much-needed support, they would lower their chances of returning to prison. They do more than just believe it, they have put it into action helping many former prisoners in Arkansas. Exodus Project puts those they help through a program that emphasizes education, community, and restoration. The Exodus Project also works with current prisoners to prepare for their release and continue that work after release. The all-encompassing nature of their help in turning prisoner’s lives around is why they are this month’s Victory Over Violence Difference Maker.
