Women’s Own Worth
/p>
Women’s Own Worth (WOW) exists to help women in crisis. After traumatic situations, they work to empower women and their families to regain their self-worth by enabling them to sustain an independent life. WOW provides counseling services, helps with living arrangements, transportation, dental and physical care, and advocates on behalf of the victims. Transitional housing is also in the works that will give women a safe and stable place to live as they recover from the trauma they experienced. The first of the houses are slated to be built in 2019 with more in the works.
WOW founder Jajuan Archer knows firsthand what it’s like to recover from a traumatic situation. After being accosted at gunpoint by an ex-boyfriend twice, she had to make a lifesaving decision. She knows what women are going through when they come to her for help. She can connect these women to the statewide network of services designed to help them and facilitate recovery. For the work that Jajuan Archer and WOW are doing to help women recover from traumatic situations, Rainwater, Holt & Sexton are honored to present them the Victory Over Violence Difference Maker Award.
