Exactech® Knee Replacement Failure

Defective Product Attorney

defective knee replacement

Each year, knee replacement surgery provides relief to thousands of people who suffer from moderate to severe knee pain, stiffness, and inflammation. However, the surgery isn’t without risks—especially if the knee implants that patients receive are defective or prone to early failure. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reports that patients who received Exactech®Optetrak® knee systems may be at risk of early device failure and complications that can only be resolved with surgery.

People who suffer from complications due to failed and defective knee implants, including Exactech’s Optetrak knee replacement, may be eligible to pursue claims for compensation.

If you received a letter about the recall or if you or a loved one underwent knee replacement surgery between 2004-2022 —or if you’re scheduled to have the procedure—contact our law firm now to discuss your options. Call us at (800) 434-4800.

How Can You Tell if Your Knee Implant Failed?

Knee replacement implants are designed to relieve many debilitating symptoms of knee damage caused by factors like injuries and arthritis. However, defective knee implants can leave patients suffering from many of the same symptoms caused by these conditions, including:

  • Inflammation and swelling
  • Reduced mobility
  • Poor range of motion
  • Severe pain
  • Impaired balance
  • Difficulty walking and standing

Why Are Some Optetrak® Knee Replacements Defective?

Exactech reconfigured its Optetrak knee replacement system to feature a tibial tray with a finned design. However, that design may have reduced the device’s ability to adhere to the surgical cement used during the operation, making it prone to early failure.

Since the first knee replacements were completed with the new design in 2011, the FDA has received several reports and complaints about the knee implant failing and causing patients to experience pain, reduced mobility, and other complications. Many of these patients had to undergo corrective surgeries and procedures to resolve the adverse effects caused by their defective knee implants.
