Excel Center (Goodwill Adult High School)

Since the law changed in 2015, The Excel Center became Arkansas’ first adult high school. Any adult can now get a high school diploma instead of GED. They offer several wrap-around services, including flexible and accelerated schedules, free on-site childcare, and a life-coaching model. These coaches are so much more than a counselor, but are hands-on helping students with academic challenges and any other barriers that they may face, like housing or food insecurities. Since the school is not state funded, support for the school comes strictly from donations. The Excel Center currently has an enrollment between 120 and 150 students with a growth of up to 300 students with their upcoming expansion. Their dedicated work has earned them this month’s Difference Makers Award.
